THE UNIVERSITY OF ASTURIAS
The University of Oviedo is the public institution of higher education and research of the Principality of Asturias. With more than 400 years of history, it has a complete offer of degrees adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) in all branches of knowledge, bilingual itineraries, double degrees with international universities, and interuniversity postgraduates and in collaboration with more than 250 companies.
Campus of international excellence
With an international vocation, closely linked to its territorial environment and with a strong commitment to the transfer of knowledge to the productive fabric, the University of Oviedo was one of the first nine Spanish universities to obtain accreditation as Campus of International Excellence on November 26 2009. The CEI Asturias-Ad Futurum project groups more than 300 institutions, companies and technological centers.
Seven campuses in three cities
The teaching is concentrated in seven campuses distributed in the central axis of Asturias: Oviedo (El Cristo, El Milán, Llamaquique, Catalanes and Oviedo-center), Gijón and Mieres, besides the offer of different university services in Avilés. In 2010 an ambitious plan for the reorganization of centers was carried out, which has been shown as an example of good practices for Spanish universities. As a result, the teaching is taught in 16 faculties and schools, four attached centers and the professional school of Physical Education and Sports Medicine. In addition, the International Postgraduate Center (CIP) brings together master's and doctoral education.
The academic institution has complete sports facilities and modern accommodation for students, teachers and administration and services staff. It also offers a wide range of language courses, student orientation services and job search advice.
Regional research engine
The University of Oviedo develops 80% of Asturias's R & D & I, and has leading services and equipment to facilitate the transfer of knowledge to the productive fabric. The income derived from scientific production amounts to about 40 million euros per year and has about 500 contracts or agreements with companies to develop research projects.
The Asturian university institution also leads two clusters specialized in Energy, Environment and Climate Change, and Biomedicine and Health, closely linked with the regional technological parks and the Asturian health network.
Commitment to society
Faithful to the historical legacy that made the University of Oviedo a pioneer of University Extension in Spain at the end of the 19th century, the activity of dissemination of knowledge extends outside the campuses throughout the Principality of Asturias. The Historical Building, located in the center of Oviedo, is the headquarters of the Cultural Center for University Extension LAUDEO, where the main academic and cultural events are held open to Asturian society.
Within the framework of social institutional responsibility, the University of Oviedo has services for the care and support of people with specific needs and a space of solidarity in which to develop volunteering and international cooperation. Equality Unit ensures compliance with the policies of gender equality and family reconciliation.
