How to Get to Asturias
Everything you need to know to travel to Asturias by plane, bus or train.

Plane
Asturias has its own airport, Asturias Airport (OVD), located near Avilés. Although it is a relatively small airport, it offers good connections with many national and international destinations.
From the airport, you can take the ALSA airport bus to either Oviedo or Gijón. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes and costs €9. Further information, timetables and online tickets can be found on the ALSA website.
Another popular option among international students is to fly to Santander or Madrid, for example, and continue to Asturias by bus.
Santander is located approximately 200 km from Oviedo and offers connections to Oviedo and Gijón in around 3 hours, with fares starting at about €16. From Madrid, located around 450 km away, the journey takes approximately 6 hours and tickets generally start from around €42.

Bus
The main bus company in Spain is ALSA, which operates services throughout Asturias and the rest of Spain. Both Oviedo and Gijón have central bus stations with frequent connections to cities, towns, airports and other destinations across the country.
Buses are often one of the most affordable and convenient ways to travel, especially for students. Tickets can be purchased online or directly at the station.

Train
Train services in Spain are operated mainly by Renfe.
In recent years, the arrival of high-speed rail has significantly improved connections with the rest of Spain. The journey between Madrid and Oviedo now takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, while travelling to Gijón usually takes around 15 minutes longer.
Train ticket prices can vary considerably depending on demand and how far in advance you book. Booking early often results in much lower fares.

For both trains and buses, you can use Trainline to compare routes, schedules and prices in one place.
